From Italy comes the great maestro and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, Matteo Alemanno. After receiving formal education as an architect, he began working as an illustrator for some of Italy’s most important publishing houses, including Mondadori, Scuola, Skira, Signorelli, Silvana, and Boyds Mills Press. At the same time, he worked on a wide range of projects for advertising campaigns, music albums, posters, calendars, and participated in numerous art exhibitions.
He began his comic book career in the 1990s, and since 2001, he has become one of the most highly regarded authors in the large French-Belgian market. In collaboration with the publisher Dupuis, he illustrated the series *Meche Rebelle*, which in later editions was titled *proTECTO*. This was followed by the highly successful series *Vampires*, and an offer from the publisher Glénat for the series *Guardians of Hell*. Soon, he was also hired by the third major publisher in that market, Dargaud, for which he created the very successful series *Marina*. Many of these comics have been published internationally. His latest work is the phenomenal edition *Drawing Venice*, one of the rare comics by the maestro to premiere in Italy.
He has won numerous awards for his work, including the awards for “Best Debut Edition” on the French market at the prestigious festivals in Amiens and Rennes in 2004 and 2005, “Best Italian Artist” in 2011 at the Treviso Comics Festival, and “Best Artist” at Napoli Comicon in 2012.
